Given my professed love for all things Art Deco, no one will be surprised to learn that I squealed with glee when I opened my e-mail just now to find the latest Trove newsletter announcing that the store will now be stocking Re-Mix vintage shoes (at right: The Savoy, my personal favourite if any of you are looking to buy me a really expensive Christmas present). A good friend of mine owns a pair (she’s lucky her feet are a good 3 sizes smaller than mine), and they are even more gorgeous in real life. Might be time for a visit to Trove to play dress-up…

I saw Changeling yesterday and in addition to being a really juicy, satisfying melodrama, it’s got an aesthetic to die for. Look:
My kingdom for this hat
The moment this hat appeared onscreen, I gasped so audibly that my movie companion said “Yes, Alison, I know you want that hat.” Also love that old school red lipstick. And her silent-movie-era smoky-bruisey eye-makeup, which I can’t find a decent picture of.
Covet these gloves, too. And the phone. I couldn’t find any stills to illustrate this, but in the movie, Christine Collins (played by Angelina Jolie) is a supervising telephone operator, which means she glides around the office on roller skates. I also couldn’t find a picture of the stunning white hat and green coat that Jolie wears in the final scene, which is a shame. You’ll just have to go check out the movie.
